Making a Slideshow-type MPEG1 Video with GNU/Linux

This tutorial is for users who are interested in making an MPEG1 video using GNU/Linux and Free Open Source Software.

The process described is partly automated with bash shell scripts, but otherwise still relies on handcrafting the video frame by frame.
