PCLinuxOS was the perfect distribution in 2007. It had all the bells and whistles to be an excellent Windows XP alternative.

However, this is 2008 and almost end of 2008. A lot has changed since then.

Although they are great flashy technologies, they don't belong everywhere. Such as the workstation. GMSI President states that his companies operating system, Salgix, is foregoing the bells and whistles in exchange for a rock solid workstation os meant for serious business: namely the scientist, artist and 3D animators of the industry.

“For example, in a desktop environment in which users just need a simple web interface, basic word processing and a spreadsheet, an open source package such as Ubuntu running OpenOffice would be perfect.

These users don’t need the bells and whistles of a Microsoft Office.”
