Nehalem EP (Xeon) Processors 'Ridiculously fast'

TechRadar.com reports on some preliminary benchmarks on Intel's upcoming Nehalem EP chips which they say will be sold as the Xeon X5560 CPUs in the 1st quarter of 2009.

Apple has traditionally used the Xeon processors for the Mac Pro line.

Here's a look at the LLVM 2.4 release on ars technica.

"One very significant part of the LLVM effort is the Clang project, which aims to build a completely new LLVM front-end - one that can be used in place of the current GCC-based front-ends - for C-like languages.

Clang is progressing rapidly and is already capable of compiling some C applications. Clang offers a lot of really compelling advantages over GCC.

In our performance exploration of Ubuntu we now have additional tests to publish this morning. This time around we're switching out the hardware we're testing on to Intel's newer Core 2 series and we're comparing the performance of the x86 and x86_64 editions of Ubuntu 8.10 against Apple's Mac OS X 10.5.5 operating system.
