Debian Administration: "Inspired by this work, and because I have the same laptop, I decided to try to reproduce their results.

So far I have not come very close to their 5 seconds, but I have made some significant improvements compared to the default boot time for Debian on that machine; this article describes what I've done."

Debian-Administration.org has made an attempt to reproduce the five-second Linux boot experiment using Debian.

With the Intrepid Ibex (Ubuntu 8.10) still some seven weeks away, the Ubuntu team, through the voice/writing of Mark Shuttleworth, has announced its plans for Ubuntu 9.04 aka Jaunty Jackalope.

Expected to ship in April, the next, next Linux operating system is planned to improve boot time and feature a better integration of web-based applications.
