Debian Lenny was originally scheduled for release in September. Now that we're well into October, Debian developer Alexander Reichle-Schmehl admits that plan was "too optimistic."

A. B. VerHausen writes to tell us that over 200 release-critical bugs continue to push back Debian Lenny's release date.

Originally slated for a September release, there is still a long road to be traveled before Lenny sees the light of day.

Tectonic: "It seems the Debian team is battling "too many release critical bugs" to make Lenny viable. And now the team is calling for help from the community to squash the remainder of these bugs."

You probably noticed by now, that Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 aka "Lenny" hasn't been released in September. Well, that's a shame, but very easy to explain: Too many release critical bugs

Luk Claes reported on the progress regarding the release of the new stable release Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 Lenny.

While there are still a lot of release critical bugs to be fixed, Lenny is in good enough shape to call for upgrade tests and work on the release notes.
