The only languages currently used in applications that are part of an official GNOME desktop release are C, C# and Python.Look and feel GNOME is designed around the traditional computing desktop metaphor.

For instance, the preferences section of the Panel were reduced from a dialog of six tabs to one with two tabs.

Save images from Safari with iPhone 2.0 software

If you want to save an image in Safari with the iPhone 2.0 software, simply touch it and hold. A dialog will appear that offers Save Image or Cancel.

Choose Save Image, and the image will be stored in your iPhone's photo library, and will be transferred to iPhoto on the next sync.


 

GNOME Do 0.5 Adds Easy Configuration, Tons of Handy Plug-ins

Linux only: GNOME Do, a favorite application launcher of Linux-using readers and Lifehacker editors, has released a 0.5 version that hugely expands its reach and functionality.

Most apparent are a built-in configuration tool, re-enabling of the simple-but-powerful "Open With" dialog, and the wealth of both official and "community" plug-ins.

Automatically eject/mount disks on sleep/wake

Using a laptop with permanent external drives can be a bit annoying when you leave the desk -- you have to manually eject all your devices, otherwise you get that dreaded 'Device Removal' dialog.

With a little bit of Terminal magic, though, you can automatically eject disks when you sleep the laptop, meaning you can just put the lid down and go.

Disks are also reconnected automatically on wake, for when you're just sleeping the computer without going places.
