Motorola has confirmed it is to lay off around 3,000 workers in the wake of its latest financial losses.

It was only launched last week, but it seems that rejuvenated brand Apricot has already had to make some changes.

ZDNet: "A representative told me today that they have decided to dump the Linux version of the device. This was to have been priced at £279, with the XP version costing £329.

There is now only an XP option, priced at £299."

An incredibly strong endorsement. Wikipedia will run Ubuntu Linux on all 400 of its servers that support the website.

OpenMoko has issued a very early alpha release of its software platform which has been radically reinvented in a quest to bring more speed and power to open source handsets.

It now uses Enlightenment e17 and Trolltech's Qtopia mobile environment.
