Boxee released their Ubuntu Linux port for 7.10 and 8.04 (Gutsy Gibbon and Hardy Heron) versions today. Sign up for their alpha at boxee.tv or ask your friends who have been using it on OS-X to add your email to their friends list within the boxee website.

It's an all-format media player with social ties. That means it tweets, friendfeeds, etc!

I started with Feisty Fawn, and after upgrading once Gutsy Gibbon came out, I decided I never wanted to go through that pain again.

That was, until I discovered that you could move your /home folder and all of its contents to another hard drive.

I was thrilled.

I have moved from Gutsy Gibbon to Hardy Heron and suddenly found that my sound output was distorted. Temporarily, reducing the volume of PCM and then increasing it was the solution I followed, as I was busy with pimping Hardy Heron.

Which path should you follow? Should you take advantage of Ubuntu's package manager and use it to upgrade your system to the latest 8.04 Hardy Heron release, or should you download a CD or DVD ISO image and do a clean install?

For most of you who know what actually i meant with the title of this post, i would like to explain that i have fresh installed Ubuntu Linux "Hardy Heron" 8.04 LTS version on my computer dual boot with Windows XP.

A major upgrade of your OS is always a leap of faith. In this case my upgrade from Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) to 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron) was a smooth transition with no worries.
