That night someone, nicknamed mapnjd, submitted the article to Slashdot with the above title (Dag Wieers intelligent swipe at Ubuntu) but I guess the Slashdot editors thought it would be a better headline if they phrased it Dag Wieers Scoffs at Coordinated Linux Release Proposal ... and overnight I became an Ubuntu-hater ...

Nic Doye writes "Dag Wieers responds to Mark Shuttleworth's recent request to ask major Enterprise Linux distributions to synchronise releases, claiming that it 'is no more than a wish to benefit from a lot of work that Novell and Red Hat are already doing in the Enterprise space.' He's confessing to playing Devil's Advocate here, but it is an interesting view from someone with a large amount of experience in the Red Hat/Fedora/CentOS space."


 

Ubuntu releases Hardy Heron, closer to desktop nirvana

Yet another six months has passed and another Ubuntu Linux release is out the door. April 2008 signals the release of Ubuntu 8.04, or Hardy Heron, and follows the Feisty Fawn and Gutsy Gibbon releases of 2007 with the intention making Linux as desktop friendly as Windows or Mac OS X.

Maybe not so much "The Linux Release Schedule Calendar" as "A Linux Release Schedule Calendar". It's my humble attempt at making a simple, quick, one stop reference for those who like to look forward to the latest and greatest in the FOSS community.

Google Calendar is used and anybody who would like to help contribute are welcome to express it.


 

Adobe AIR Makes Its Way to Linux

Adobe announced today that the pre-release alpha version of AIR for Linux is available immediately on the Adobe Labs site.

Adobe shipped the 1.0 version of AIR for Windows and Mac last month but was forced to delay the Linux release.
