Tiny $75 SBC gains baseboard

Chennai, India-based E-con Systems announced a baseboard for its SODIMM-sized, Marvell PXA270-based processor module.

The baseboard adds an LCD touchscreen, USB, serial ports, SDIO slot, and camera interfaces to the company's Linux-ready eSOM270 module, available in volume for about $75.


 

2.6.27 adds dual-core Feroceon support

Kernel patches supporting three new Feroceon-architecture system-on-chip (SoC) families from Marvell have been merged into the mainline Linux 2.6.27 kernel.

The patches cover the low-power, dual- and single-core MV7x SoCs, as well as Marvell's Kirkwood (88F6000) SoC and upcoming Loki (88RC8480) SoC.

Embedian spins MXM-based SBCs

Embedian announced two 3.5-inch single-board computers (SBCs) built around its Marvell PXA320-based MXM-8310 and MXM-8110 computer-on-modules (COMs).

The XPC-8112 and XPC-8312 SBCs offer a variety of I/O, including Ethernet, USB, and serial ports, and ship with Debian Linux or Windows CE 5.0, says the company.


 

Garmin Nav devices run Gnome Linux

Garmin has posted Linux source code for its Nuvi 8xx and Nuvi 5xxx-series GPS navigation devices. The Nuvi 8xx offers a 4.3-inch, 480x272 display, and appears to be based on a Marvell PXA-3xx processor, Gnome Mobile Linux, and GeoClue location technology.

India-based E-con Systems has announced a Marvell PXA270-based system on module (SOM) that sells for as little as $75.

The SODIMM-sized eSOM270 comes pre-installed with Linux, includes 64MB or 128MB of RAM, and has a camera interface and a LCD controller, E-con says.


 

ARM9 board boots Debian in 0.69 seconds

Technologic Systems has upgraded the firmware for its quick-booting single-board computer (SBC) to make it boot even quicker.

Equipped with a Marvell 500Mhz ARM9 CPU running Debian Sarge, the TS-7800 can boot Linux 2.6.21 from NAND flash in 0.69 seconds, claims Technologic.

The forthcoming release of Linux 2.6.27 will extend the mainline kernel's support for Marvell's embedded storage processors.

The release will add basic support for Marvell's Loki (88RC8480), a system-on-chip (SoC) processor integrating a 400MHz-1GHz Feroceon core with a mix of on-chip peripheral interfaces aimed at storage and networking.
