My Problem with Debian

I use Debian based distros. My favourites are Ubuntu, Sidux and MEPIS. In fact, I am solidly in the Debian camp.

Despite this I have a problem with Debian and Debian users. It goes like this.

Mepis 7.0- My Distro of Choice

As far as a major contender distribution that I use on a regular basis, I would say it would definatly have to be Simply Mepis 7.0.

Mepis is a rock solid distribution created by Warren Woodford, and the Mepis Team.

Debian? Ubuntu? Sidux? Pardus? Mepis? Gentoo? Whoa! Why are these Linux distros so strangely named? Why not name a OS simply - door, room or window?

Although, Linux distros have very strange names but it is interesting to know, why they are called so?


 

Minimize Thunderbird to System Tray in Mepis 8

After having recently moved all my mail to Thunderbird from Kmail, I was dismayed to discover that Thunderbird will not "minimize to tray," meaning that I would get no new mail notifications and no "Lightning" calendar reminders without TB being open on the desktop or minimized to the taskbar.


 

Development Release: SimplyMEPIS 8.0 Beta 3

Simply Mepis Linux and My Office - Part Two

If you have read my Linux posts, you know Simply Mepis happens to be my preference out of the hundreds available.

I have been happily using Mepis for many years, and have no plans to go elsewhere. It’s easy to install, maintain and customize.

That’s a great combination.


 

Simply Mepis 8 is Looking Good

Everything is working very well, with the exception of the built-in webcam, which I have never used. Sound, wireless, 3-D graphics and more are working just right.

Keep in mind, this is still a beta version; when this becomes gold, it will be Mepis 8 and rock solid as usual.
