Debian Etch currently (and presumably never will) install on an ASUS P5QL Pro motherboard, and presumably related boards.

I have succeeded in getting an AMD64 install in the following way (warning; kludge to follow):

getting a full functional OS, right on your pen drive, working on every pc (if the motherboard supports the usb boot)

If you are planning on buying a motherboard to run Linux, beware. Before you choose Foxconn, do check with them about this.

Several readers have sent me a link to a discussion in progress on the Ubuntu forums which outlines how hardware manufacturer Foxconn crippled Linux support on the G33M-S motherboard by breaking ACPI support.

Ubuntu Forums: "Linux and FreeBSD do not work with this motherboard due to it's ACPI configuration, using a disassembler program, I have found that it detects Linux specifically and points it to bad DSDT tables, thereby corrupting it's hardware support..."

Practical Tech: "when I had to get a new PC in a hurry, after one of my PCs went to the big bit-ranch in the sky with a fried motherboard, the one I bought, a Dell Inspiron 530S from my local Best Buy came pre-infected with Vista Home Premium.
