At OSCON in July, Mark Shuttleworth , the driving force behind Ubuntu, made it clear he's aiming for mainstream desktop adoption of Linux.

Mark Shuttleworth: "When I laid out the goal of "delivering a user experience that can compete with Apple in two years" at OSCON, I had many questions afterwards about how on earth we could achieve that."

This year at OSCON it seemed that you couldn't throw a stone without hitting someone from Microsoft .

The Register: "Drizzle -- unveiled recently at the O'Reilly Open Source Convention (OSCON) by MySQL director of architecture Brian Aker - is described as a "slimmed down version of MySQL" and defined as much by what it doesn't do as by what it does.
