This may be old news to some of you, but I recently got around to checking out Appnr.com, and I’m pretty impressed.

It’s a website for searching and installing the Ubuntu application repositories straight from the web. All the standard repos are listed and up-to-date–even the Google Linux repos.

Why the hell should a person use Intrepid at all? Is it for the new theme, that can also so be applied in Hardy?

Is it because one would get latest version of the software that could also be upgraded in Hardy also by adding repositories?.

Appnr is a web-based directory for Ubuntu packages (including the official repositories and third-party packages from Medibuntu, Google, and the Canonical Partner repository).

You can use it to browse and install packages directly from your browser. It's like Synaptic for your browser.

I personally prefer to install the codecs and libraries to listen to MP3 and see my videos encrypted. So you can do this, we must first install the Packman repositories.

nyone who uses RedHat enterprise will find that plugging into third party repositories to get non standard software is risky.

Today I needed to install bittorrent and noticed that the redhat enterprise 5 repository does not have what I need

Next I tried on my Dell Latituded D600, which was a dual-boot XP Pro and OpenSUSE 11 box. No dice, YAST couldn't find it or rrdtool (a dependency) in the OpenSUSE repositories.

So, I decided to give Debian a try.
