"MiniBlade" spec targets miniature mass storage

The Small Form Factor Special Interest Group (SFF-SIG) announced it is working on a specification to standardize small-format storage.

The SFF-SIG, which earlier this year announced a "SUMIT" spec for tiny single-board computers (SBCs), will base the MiniBlade spec on SiliconSystems's SiliconDrive II Blade technology.


 

Linux BSP ships for Geode-based SBCs

VersaLogic announced the release of a Linux board support package (BSP) for two of its single-board computers (SBCs).

The DEV-CD-L6 supports the AMD Geode LX-based Cougar and Python boards with a LiveCD that includes Debian Linux 4.0 running Linux kernel 2.6.25-5.


 

PC/104-Plus SBC uses eight Watts

VersaLogic has modified one of its long-running single-board computers (SBCs) to operate fanlessly, using just eight Watts of power.

The PC-104/Plus-based Cheetah EPM-32v runs Linux, targeting low-power embedded applications in medicine, avionics, or security, says the company.


 

Linux-friendly Beagle fetches $150

Digi-Key has picked up a low-cost evaluation board aimed at low-volume embedded developers, hobbyists, and students.

The U.S.-based distributor of single-board computers and other embedded development products says TI's $150, 3-inch-square Beagle Board offers a unique opportunity to evaluate ARM's Cortex A8 and TI's OMAP3 architectures.


 

Embedian spins MXM-based SBCs

Embedian announced two 3.5-inch single-board computers (SBCs) built around its Marvell PXA320-based MXM-8310 and MXM-8110 computer-on-modules (COMs).

The XPC-8112 and XPC-8312 SBCs offer a variety of I/O, including Ethernet, USB, and serial ports, and ship with Debian Linux or Windows CE 5.0, says the company.
