French software firm Mandriva has released a version of its Linux distribution designed for netbooks.

Like Linux and others, it shares its source code free of charge, giving programmers everywhere permission to debug, add capabilities or otherwise modify the product before redistributing it.

Nokia completes Trolltech acquisition

Finland-based handset manufacturer Nokia announced that it has completed its acquisition of Trolltech. The Norwegian software firm's development talent -- together with its Linux-compatible "Qt" application development framework -- is likely to help Nokia improve its cross-platform support, and expand its presence in the Linux mobile device market.

Former MontaVista exec joins networking firm
