MIDs to outsell netbooks in five years?

The firm expects Moblin to take 42 percent of the market in 2013, when it expects 86 million Linux-enabled MIDs to ship.

Neuros Technology has started shipping its second open set-top box, which targets both consumers and product companies.

Wind River buys Mizi Research

Wind River announced it will acquire a Korean developer of Linux mobile GUI stacks. The $16 million acquisition of privately-held Mizi Research will bring Wind River "world-class mobile expertise" and will "accelerate its mobile services presence in Asia Pacific," says the company.


 

Is Certified Open Source really that important?

SpikeSource recently partnered with Intel to offer certified stacks. Another study recently claimed that community-supported Linux distros were doing as well as paid support-enabled ones.

In May of this year, Sun's "Project Indiana" team released OpenSolaris 2008.05, a major milestone on the path to a community-developed Solaris distribution.
