Novell has launched a "competitive replacement" program aimed at luring Red Hat and CentOS users to its SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) product.

Through the program, Novell will support customers' RHEL or CentOS servers for up to two years, while the customer migrates to SLES.

Enterprise Networking Planet: "It's growing because in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) there are at least two distros that are seen as enterprise ready and suitable for the big time, and also because it's cheap, manageable, good for virtualization and it runs the software that many people want to use."

Microsoft and Novell, as part of their general interoperability partnership, have verified running Novell's SuSE Linux Enterprise Server as a guest operating system on Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V.

I really like the fact that Novell is hanging in there. Incorporating Linux was a very smart move on their part.

I would really like to see Novell make a massive comeback. I am downloading the OS DVD to give them another try.
