Linux Journal covers the release of the first phone to implement the Android mobile platform.

"The first phone to implement Google's Open Source Android mobile platform -- the eagerly-anticipated T-Mobile G1 -- made its maiden voyage today, launching to the expected fanfare and with the surprise appearance of Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin -- on rollerblades.

Developed by Taiwanese manufacturer HTC as the Dream, the G1 is Google's first volley in the ever-increasingly hostile mobile phone wars.


 

AMD preps low-powered Atom killer?

[Revised, Aug. 22] -- While Intel's Developer Forum hogged the limelight this week, AMD was shyly preparing to ship its own competitor to Intel's Atom.

The AMD Sempron 200U and 210U will sample next month on a 3.5-inch SBC (single board computer), says Taiwanese manufacturer Ibase.

Taiwanese manufacturer Synology has shipped an AJAX-enhanced upgrade to browser-based management software it ships with its hackable Linux-based NAS systems.

Disk Station Manager (DSM) 2.0 extends Synology's Disk Station and Cube Station devices with features including video surveillance, photo blogging, and game system support.
