I'm a power business user who has enough technical background to use the command line and utilities, so Ubuntu didn't scare me. However, there were a few quirks that I ran into.

I'm writing this as I'm wrapping up the Gentoo installation on my thinkpad that replaced the horrible mess that was Ubuntu 8.04 ("Hardy") and it kinda got me thinking about how it came to be that Ubuntu dominated the mindshare.

The Lenovo R61 ThinkPad with SUSE Linux inside is a little tank in laptop clothing that makes a killer business laptop at an affordable price.
