Disk performance on the Eee PC.

I own the 4GB Eee PC and I love it a lot. I was trying to develop ways to get more apps installed and increase performance.

I studied UnionFS and SquashFS and came up with great results. I squashed my /usr and /opt and turned 4GB install of Arch Linux into 1.5GB.

I was able to install a lot more applications on my computer. I increased disk perform


 

I deleted /etc/vfstab, how to recover it

Something bad could happen if you delete /etc/vfstab by mistake and you do not have a backup, the system would not find the required partitions to boot, they are: root (/), /usr, and /var.


 

The only 64bits GtkApp on Solairs

I tried to test the scim/scim-bridge gtk-im-modules for 64bits applications, however, the gnome applications on Solaris are 32bits, except this one, /usr/demo/bin/{amd64,sparcv9}/gtkdemo .

10.5: A possible fix if X11 won't launch

I recently upgraded to Leopard after getting my hands on a MacBook (goodbye G3 iBook!), and was unable to use X11 from my clean install.

After trying to reinstall X11 from my install disc as suggested in this hint, I still couldn't use it.
