The best window manager ever is under active development again. It's website was half-alive and cvs inaccessible for a long time, and there were no realases and no maillist activity for over two years, and finally here they are again!

AWN Dock or Avant Window Manager is a thing in Ubuntu that you wanna try. Instead of playing around or get confused with the normal taskbar, why not use a clever dock?

In my opinion the event is very important. The release of the first distribution with kde 4.1 by default will be remembered for years to come as the end of the process of stabilizing the window manager and the beginning of a period that will see further development always a constant, but will a basic structure and function perfectly usable

Remote Window Managers

Lots of times it's extremely frustrating or time consuming to run an xterm on a remote host just to fork your programs from that remote machine.

Why not just run your window manager there even though you're not on its console? The window manager is just another X application, after all, isn't it?Fire off your local X server xinit /usr/bi


 

Fluxbox on ubuntu

I've been planning to try other Window Manager from day to day and finally I manage to get time to install and try Fluxbox on my Gutsy.

Yeah It's pretty smooth and light compared to gnome and kde. Even Xfce is heavier than fluxbox wm.
