This seems to be exciting news. I was a little disappointed that other netbooks/laptops were shipping less popular linux versions (Linpus, Xandros, ...).It is great that Toshiba goes after the biggest market by introducing Ubuntu on its notebook.Unfortunately this seems UK only, but where is their ideastorm so we can propel this to other countries.

Linux XP is a strange beast. From what I gather it tries very hard to emulate the look and feel of Microsoft Windows in order to make the transition to Linux easier to the Microsoft-familiar.

That is an admirable goal shared by some rather successful commercial entities like Xandros. Apparently with this release, Linux XP is more like ..

Internet News looks at Dell's new Inspiron Mini 9 sub-notebook.

"Except for a keyboard that omits the usual row of function keys above the number row, the Mini's specs match several of its competitors'.

A glossy 8.9-inch display with 1,024x600 resolution shows most Web pages with no need for horizontal scrolling.

Under the hood are Intel's Atom N270, a 1.6GHz one-core processor with 2MB of Level 2 cache, and GMA 950 integrated-graphics chipset.

Xandros to return Freespire to Debian roots
